Rabbi Mordechai S Ginsbury (Director)

Rabbi Ginsbury comes from a rabbinic family and grew up in South London. He is an alumnus of Gateshead and Be’er Ya’akov Yeshivot and pursued advanced rabbinic studies at the Liverpool Kollel before serving as Rav of the Prestwich Hebrew Congregation, Greater Manchester for 14 years. For the past 18 years, he has been the spiritual leader of Hendon Synagogue.

A former Chairman of the Rabbinical Council of the Provinces, a member of the Chief Rabbi Sacks’ ‘cabinet’, and a former Chairman of the Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue, Rabbi Ginsbury is Principal of the Hasmonean Primary School and, since its creation some 11 years ago, has been director of P’eir. Rabbi Ginsbury is passionate about ensuring the success and encouraging the personal growth of rabbis and has raised the profile of P’eir from its earliest beginnings and developed its impact on the US rabbinate and communities.

Rabbi Julian S Shindler (Programmes Director)

Rabbi Shindler originally trained and worked in academic scientific research at the Universities of Manchester, Cambridge and at Imperial College, London; he holds an MSc and PhD in biochemistry. He is also an alumnus of Yeshivot in Israel and was holder of one of the first Kalms fellowships at Jews’ College before entering the rabbinate. Prior to this, he founded and developed the science department at Menorah Grammar School and was musical director of the London Jewish Male Choir. His first rabbinic appointments were as the UJS London Region Student Chaplain followed by some 12 years as Rabbi of the Muswell Hill Synagogue.

Over the past 30 years, Rabbi Shindler has held senior positions at the Office of the Chief Rabbi, having been recruited by the late Rav Lord Jakobovits z’l, serving throughout Chief Rabbi Sacks’ incumbency and presently with Chief Rabbi Mirvis. Since 2001 he has also been the Executive Director of the Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue. For much of this time he has been responsible for the professional support of his rabbinical colleagues, including organising in-service training, residential conferences and social events.  In 2010, Rabbi Shindler joined the P’eir team as Programmes Director where he continues to devise and deliver high-quality professional development seminars for our rabbanim.

Mrs Judy Markovic (Administrator and Rebbetzens’ Programme Co-ordinator)

In the past few years, the United Synagogue has recognised the need to provide professional support for its rebbetzens and, having piloted the idea with the co-option of Rebbetzens Davis and Ginsbury, Mrs Judy Markovic was appointed to take on this role. Mrs Markovic has a BSc (hons) degree in Mathematical Sciences from the Open University and fulfils her duties with great enthusiasm. Working closely in conjunction with Rabbi Shindler and in consultation with the rebbetzens, she has established herself in this position and has gained their trust.
