Nearly 40 members and friends of Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue, together with Rabbi Ephraim Guttentag, went on a tour of Jewish Lincoln with historian Dr Charles Landau. It was a historic re-enactment of an earlier visit some 85 years ago by the Jewish History Society. The group was met by the Bishop of Lincoln in a spirit of reconciliation, and ended the day being welcomed by the Mayor of Lincoln in the Guildhall.
The group made history as they prayed afternoon prayers, Mincha, the first minyan (group of men for prayer) on the site of the Medieval synagogue in 700 years!
Rabbi Guttentag, Rabbi at Hampstead Garden Suburb United Synagogue said, ‘‘It was a fascinating insight into our rich heritage and influence in this country. Participants were inspired by the knowledge and leadership of Dr Charles Landau.’’
