On Sunday, 3 November, A large crowd gathered at Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue, Norrice Lea, to celebrate the dedication of a new Torah Scroll, donated in memory of, Jack and Vera Ackerman. In his opening remarks, Rabbi Friedman commented that Jack and Vera had no family of their own – the children of Norrice Lea are their children.
The last letters were completed by members of the community with Sofer Rabbi Chaim Roth Levi, under the close scrutiny of the children of the Aleph Centre (cheder), after which the Scroll was paraded outside with music, dancing, singing and simcha. We look forward to reading from this beautiful new addition to our Shul, keeping alive our memories of Jack and Vera.
Rabbi Daniel Friedman said: "The Hachnasat Sefer Torah in memory of Jack and Vera Ackerman was a very special occasion for the Norrice Lea Family. Jack and Vera did not have children of their own. But their Torah was accompanied into the shul by hundreds of children from our Aleph Centre cheder, who sang and danced and experienced a moment that will be etched in their memories forever. Today, these children became Jack & Vera’s kinderlach."
