“Join the Board of Management or become a Honorary Office – do you think I’m crazy…”

You might imagine that this is the standard response of anyone asked to become a board member at their local shul. And who knows, maybe it is? But one thing’s for sure, for most people once they’ve taken on such a role, it proves to be a hugely rewarding experience and one which they look back on with great pride. Is it hard work? It can be, Will it be possible to please everyone? Almost never. But that’s not what it’s all about.

The work that gets done by volunteers on their local Shul boards is often overlooked, but the effect it has is enormous. If you speak to most board members about it, they’ll often tell you that you need to be crazy to do the job…just before they stand for re-election for another year! Want to get involved and make a difference? Maybe you should stand for election this year…

In order to volunteer to serve on a Shul Board of Management or as a Local Honorary Officer, you must stand for election at an AGM. You must be at least 18 years  old and have been, at the date of nomination, a member of the Shul for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the nomination.
