Last Sunday, on the last night of Chanukah, we were privileged to hear the New West End Synagogue's resident choir, Mosaic Voices, perform in a special concert at NWES to mark the launch of The Blue Book CD. The event attracted many guests and friends, young and old, from within and outside our community. The shul had a wonderful atmosphere by candlelight and after the candles of the chanukiah were lit, the eight-man choir entertained us with their beautiful music. The choir, conducted by Michael Etherton, sang a wide range of pieces, from classics heard regularly in the NWES during the choral services held every Shabbat and Yom Tov, to gems that are rarely performed. We also learned about the history of The Blue Book, a written record of the fantastic Jewish liturgy that we have. In a nod to modern developments in Anglican Jewish choral musical, we were treated to a sparkling new setting of L'Dor V'Dor, by Benjamin Till (BAFTA nominated composer, and member of Mosaic Voices), featuring Marc Joseph (one of NWES's resident cantors) as soloist. It made the performance all the more magical and moving. A huge congratulation to Michael, Marc, and Mosaic Voices for all their hard work and spell-binding performance. The Blue Book CD is for sale in hard copy (contact the New West End office on 020 7229 2631) and will be available on iTunes from early 2019.
