Stanmore and Canons Park Synagogue has been shortlisted for the Mitzvah Day 365 Award for its Yad B’Yad (Hand In Hand) social action project.
Inspired by the increased engagement that Mitzvah Day achieved and also by winning the Mitzvah Day Outstanding Project last year, Stanmore and Canons Park Synagogue decided to build on the foundation of this fantastic initiative to launch the first ever Yad B'Yad programme.
The Stanmore Yad B’Yad project uses Stanmore’s award winning Mitzvah Day programming as a springboard to develop and enhance the community so it thrives throughout the year. Its aims are to increase membership, community participation and involvement. As a community, Stanmore and Canons Park Synagogue has already successfully launched, over the past year, the Knitting and Crochet Group, weekly Bridge Group, the B’s Buttons Project, the Great Stanmore Honey Cake Bake where 200 honey cakes were baked and delivered to the Synagogue’s senior members, SAFIRE, Gardening at the RNOH, Collection for the US Asylum Seekers Centre, the Camp Simcha Toy Drive and cooking for a Women’s Shelter.
These are all great achievements and there are many more ideas planned for the year ahead, to increase engagement and involvement across the entire community.
This project is supported by the United Synagogue Community Development Fund.
